What's the problem?

Wetlands are helping animals, cleaning air, regulating river flow,

so what's the problem? As you have probably guessed it's humans

causing the problem. For over a hundred years mankind has straightened

and deepened rivers in order to make them more accessible for

commerce. And 100 years ago who could blame them, I mean how

where they supposed to know what effect it would have on the wetlands,

at least not until the damage was done. And even then they didn't know

what effect if any wetlands had on the environment. But eventually they

did learn, but did they stop, NO!!! They compare the pros and cons,

they straighten a river, change a 3 hour trip into a 30 minute boat ride,

saving money on shipping costs, but on the cons sides they lose a

wetland, then the other companies stepped in, well once the wetlands

are gone I guess that land is just wasted space, why not build a mall

make a couple bucks, but don't worry, we'll plant a couple trees with the

profits, give a little back as they say, not good enough. With a mall on

top what chances are there of ever fixing the wetland. But the thing they

didn't think of was what good is a mall under water? Once the wetlands

are gone the river rises during a rain storm and the river can't stop from

flooding every thing in it's path, including towns. Scientists have blamed

many floods including the great Mississippi River flood of 1993, on the

disappearance of these great wetlands.
